These are debatable.

A 350 spinning at 7000rpm (PCM max) with 100% VE consumes 709cfm.

The stock TB flows 783cfm without an airfoil, 821.9cfm with an airfoil.

Flow rates

So the stock TB already flows more air than the engine could consume.

On the flip side here is a dyno with one.

http://www.ws6.com/mod-4.htm

But there was a dyno on a TPI on Horsepower TV on Powerblock and it dynoed 210 without the airfoil, put it on and ran it again. Guess what 210 horsepower.

So the gains I would say are not worth the money, spend it somewhere else.

But on the other hand, does all that CFM make it past the intake runners, When you remove a restriction, the next one in line becomes your bottleneck, don't make the air door your bottleneck.

As I said though there is dynos supporting that it does nothing.

Yep I can see that as well, the way I look at it is the motor will get the air it needs, don't get in it's way...lol. The throttle body on our motors is not like a carb (as you know) it's just a door or an air regulator.

yea they advertise up to 7 hp gain which is ridiculous. 2 or 3 is more realistic, but a better throttle response is all im after and for only 30 something dollars seems like it might be worth it

You're never going to see a VE anywhere near/beyond 100% in anything but the best of engine builds. Calculate accordingly... or just measure pressure drops...

I got one for 5 bucks on eBay the way I look at it it couldn't hurt I figuered it might help split the n20 going down it and ever after market throttle body I have ever seen is smoothed in the middle but I wouldn't spend 30 on one

I know. This is why I used the 100% VE as a calculation showing that you're not going to that much air.

What vacuum is used to achieve those flow numbers? And does the throttle body see a static flow in the real world?

I've always been leery of dyno comparo graphs that show a 1 to 10hp gain. That kind of variance can be from something as simple as coolant temp/engine heat soak differences.

I agree there has to be a level of error calculated into it and change in conditions.

I have one on my car. I personally don't believe it does something but who knows. If you were to ask me why I installed it in my head it seems like it would smooth out the air flow as that spot would cause turbulence. But i have always felt that this is probably a misguided assumption at best. But hey for 20-30 bucks who cares that's not even a tank of gas.
