What sort of thermostat do you have? I'm almost certain a good quality 160 thermostat will get "stuck" open, not closed. I believe the stock ones are the opposite shitty design that gets stuck closed. Was the coolant level low? Maybe there is air in the system somewhere? You might want to follow the proper bleed procedure and make sure there is no air in it. It's also possible your WP is on it's way out....consider an electric one for an upgrade. Also, check your fans are coming on as they should.

Check it out...

1. OE design thermostat $9.99

2. "failsafe" thermostat $37.99

Are your fans running? What if you let it idle while not moving? How hot will it get? Fans may not be running. Does your exhaust smell or look odd? Any indication of head gasket failure? Any codes on the computer?

Any chance you could be having some pre-ignition? Can you hear knock? At this point I would pull a plug or two and see if you are leaning out.

Lol you are exhausting my basic troubleshooting process. At this point, it seems to me that you have a more complicated issue. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but we've looked at the basics, I would now consider checking to see if your radiator has a blockage, stuck thermostat, bad temp sensor for the gauge (which reminds me, see if you can read the PCM engine temp, compare it to the gauge, you might not be overheating) or a coolant flow issue within one of your hoses, heads or even the block.

I would check my temp sensors, flush the whole cooling system, replace the thermostat and then see where you are.

Head gasket tester? Im. Assuming you did a compression test then? Numbers looked good? What were they?

Stick with it man, you'll figure it out.

Your problem just seems to defy conventional logic. When idling and sitting, it's cooler. When moving (with decent airflow and not beating the dogsnot out of it, I am assuming), it's hot. Must be a turbo thing.

Hopefully swapping the rad helps.
