Default 93 T/A excessive cranking

So as the title says the car (mostly cold start up) is cranking way too much before it starts. I checked fuel pressure it has 45 psi key on engine off, but it bleeds off slowly after the car reaches pressure before I crank it. I my first thought is a fuel leak but I cant find one. I put it on my buddies lift when it was running to check for leaks but nothing I can see visually. It has a fuel odor as well but I don't think the EVAP system is working right because it is building up quite a bit of pressure in the tank. I can't see how the evap would cause the car not to start properly though plus I tried leaving the cap off to see and it made no difference. The car is stock with 137 k and it had a full tune up within the last 7k miles (plugs, wires, cap and rotor). Cant figure it out though any suggestions?

It could possibly be the ECT sensor on the front of the waterpump. They can cause a similar condition when they go bad.

Old Fuel filter? Dare I say it...opti? Excessive cranking IS one of the many known symptoms of opti failure unfortunately; gotta love that opti

A good read: http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ing/index.html

Symptoms:

* Car suddenly dies and won't restart
* Starts but immediately dies
* Extended cranking to start
* Rough idle
* Sputtering
* Backfiring
* Trouble reaching higher rpm
* Black smoke from exhaust
* Poor performance with car warmed up
* Weak plug wire spark
* Codes 16, 36, and 42 may be set

Pull off the Fuel Pressure Regulator line and check if their is gas in the line or smells like gas, could be an issue, Or maybe the internal check valve on the pump is going out.

Bleedback makes me think of a bad diaphragm in the fuel regulator.

I had a brand new opti with the same issue, I think you have a leaky check valve... hook up a fuel pressure test gauge to your Schrader valve and see whats really up.... drop in pressure while the fuel pump is pressurizing is a very big clue...
