Default LS1 lid conversion, couple quick questions

OK so I did the LS1 lid conversion on my 97 z28. I got trigger happy with the dremel and ended up trashing the LS1 radiator support so I'm not using it. Aside from looks, it seems to be just fine without it. I also didn't use the air filter basket for the bottom of the lid.

I used a SLP lid and K&N filter, and used some extra weather strip type foam tape to get a really good seal on the lid to the filter, radiator, and rad. support.

Is the way I have everything configured going to be ok? I'm worried about water and debris since the whole bottom side is exposed, and I just want to make sure I'm getting the best gain out of it as possible. I haven't driven it in the rain yet.

Any thoughts or advice, or should I be ok running it like this?

Sounds pretty rigged to me, radiator support is.. meh.. but the air filter is going to be bouncing around in there without a trey and let more debris in, including moisture. I would get a new trey (very cheap) imo.

lol it's not rigged at all, the air filter sits flush and snug on the cutout portion of the support and the bent down tab of the radiator, and the lid seals to the filter and has pressure keeping it sealed down snug. Many people (including the author of the writeup.. lol) don't use the tray.

I'm not worried about the lid and filter leaking or anything, I'm just curious from others' experience if water has ever been a problem, and with the way they did their conversion what gains they got ect..

Mine has the entire filter open to the radiator and front of the car. I have not and probably wont drive in the rain as this is just a play toy. I would imagine some water or mist would make it's way to the filter but hard to say how much and what effect it would have on the car.

Oh and I bet the filter will get dirty fast. I noticed with my stock ss airbox that it would go through filters pretty fast and that was getting air from over the hood. I am willing to bet alot will find it's way off the road and into the filter how it sits now.

Ok good to hear from someone else running it this way. It runs great like this best mod for the money so far. I've driven it in the rain a few times, including tonight when I was racing a bit on HWY 100 and it hasn't had any problems yet.

I'm going to be adding a ram air setup for under the filter that should also help with adverse weather, similar to the SLP or SSRA kit but with my own twist.
