Default Broken crank bolt and extractor

The head of my crank bolt sheared off when my harmonic balancer decided to explode (stock), so I decided to drill and extract it. Well, I should have purchased a higher grade extractor because now I'm stuck with a broken extractor inside the snout of the crank along with the remainder of the bolt. I'm really hoping I don't have to tear the motor apart and have a machine shop extract it. Should I try to drill around the extractor and hopefully then remove that?

i would try to extract the extractor, then work back from there, with a higher grade extractor.

X2...u dont really have many choices here. Either go for it or u will have to go to the machine shop. Good luck.

Samething happened to me. The bolt didn't break smooth so it had a couple places where I was able to get a chissel and tap the bolt loose until it was able to spin by hand.
