Kid i know bought a 94 z28. Claims he changed the throttle body and changed or added a chip in the cpu and gained 100hp....does that sound right?

Uh, NO. TBs don't do much on a stock engine and "chips" are a joke. Only 93's require an actual "chip" type tune. Every other year can use handhelds (junk) or laptop tuning through the obd port. He probably gained <5hp with the throttle body and lost power with his so called "chip". He's probably mistaking throttle response from the throttle body for power.

To put it in perspective, my car ran 12.8s with longtubes, 3" dual exhaust, throttle body, mail order tune, 3200 stall, BFG drag radials, CAI, AC delete, LCAs, relocation brackets, adjustable torque arm, solid rear sway bar, and probably a few things I'm forgetting...at sea level. Basically was gears, rocker arms, and EWP away from full bolt ons. The 140k miles of abuse didn't help, but since it was at sea level it's still a good idea of what an LT1 needs to reliably run 12s on motor.
Not doubting that he ran a 12.8, but he has more mods then he is telling you.

Was it like baked lays or was it dorito's EXTREME!!!!!!....I could the the doritos extreme adding some power, their bags are pretty well graphic'd out.
Id stop talking to both the kid and his dad, or atleast not put any real effort into having a conversation regarding LT1's with them.

Both Jordon and Shawn Salazar were in the 12.7 to 12.8 range between 106 and 107mph. One was running Mac headers, the other SLP's,. Both had no cats, stock suspension and CAI. This was at Texas Motorplex in the summertime. Jordon got into the 12.6 range by removing the belt.
Most one or two mod cars, except maybe an SS or two or a "freak", wont run much under 13.5 (if at all). It happens, but not often...and sure as hell not with just a TB and "chip".
