Skip White, anyone run them?
Not worth toasting thousands of dollars worth of engine to save ~100 bucks on rocker arms.
Joe
I'm not one for taking any shortcuts at all. This motor has all top components in it for what it's being used for. It's over kill actually. Lunati forged crank, Scat forged rods, SRP forged pistons.
The only corner I cut was not doing 4 bolt caps. But I'm only looking at @ 420rwhp and a very seldom 100 shot for fun. So the 2 bolt will be fine.
The heads are being done now, Race flow valves, 10* locks, etc. The shop that does my work doesn't deal in, sell or even offer in cheap crap. To them, it's either buy good stuff or go somewhere else.
But with a few setbacks in the machining that dipped further in the wallet, So some things I'm shopping for better deals.
On another note:
For years I ran the GMPP hot cam rockers and everyone said they were garbage, this, that, and the other. Granted the Hotcam was no radical cam but would still turn 63-6400rpm. Never had an issue after 30k miles. This new cam will be in the 232-236 range so I'm not looking at a huge dur/lift to strain the valve train.
As for all those who are saying these aren't good, I don't disagree with you at all. You have very valid points and I'd probably be right along side you in alot of conversations. But this is to find out if anyone else has "guinea-pigged" these and how they held up.
The entire car is over-killed for what it's used for. Built from back to front. Built rearend with Eaton diff, welded tubes, Moser 33 spline axles (no C-clip eliminators YET), custom d/s, Performabuilt lvl 2 trans w/ billet nitrous converter, now the engine.
Why bother posting then?
And the GMPP rockers were made by Crane, in the USA, and are simply rebadged "Crane Gold" rockers - the same ones I run on my 383. Whoever told you they were junk doesn't know what they're talking about.
I hope you choose differently. It's just not worth it.
Ramair, believe me, I know you know your ****, your car proves it. You fellas apparently have been "on-scene" lately. I haven't really messed with cars in 5 years other than maintaining what I have. My kids have been heavy into MX so that's where I've been putting all my time.
Since doing this build that past 8 months, I've seen hundreds of new names/companies out there selling products. Example: I just found out about the LS7 lifter upgrade 4 months ago while doing research and they've been using them for 2 years now.
So now it's between the Comp Pro mags and if I go aluminum Comp, Crane golds or Scorpion is being debated.
Oh, BTW, I got the call a few min. ago, No SA for me. They're putting on guideplates.
The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
The subject came up discussing his new BBC and I told him I was contemplating rockers and, sure enough, he mentioned he runs Skips. I've known this guy for over 10 years and I trust him. He said he had never had any problems with them and one set on his wifes SBC bracket motor are 2 years old.
Looks like I'll be using his products. Besides, if something does happen, at least y'all will know.
