turbo question

Default turbo question

Dad came acrossed a little used turbo setup for a sbc. It's a charger with the manifolds and the oil.feed line. The guy selling it was a teacher at the local com college . But it was setup for a carb car with a plate bolted to it to blow under the carb not threw it. Could i just take the plate off, run some pipeing, buy a bov and a wastegate and run it if I don't go over 7 psi??

It's no fun. I used to do turbos for lt1's. They are a tuning pita. I'm all NA now until I get a stand alone ecu!

You're making it sound waaaayyy too easy to just turbo your car. Read the Forced induction section (especially the stickies) here on Tech, and then decide whether or not you're ready for that yet. It's expensive, do you have the funds for it? Do you have fabrication skills?

Far too many people don't do research when they build their car and either throw the biggest cam they find in there and make less power than stock or they decide all of the sudden they want to throw a turbo or a supercharger on "real quick". Well it's not that easy unfortunately, it takes planning and that's what this forum is here for. Search Search Search and when you finally have all of the funds and know what you want to do. Pull the trigger.

One problem you may run into is that the SBC and the LT1 heads have have a different port design. The SBC is oval where as the LT1 is a D port, so basic SBC headers will not seal on a LT1 head.. Unless you want to weld of the difference and smoth them out or have new flanges put on i would say look some where else. Just to let you know i am selling a full turbo kit from LT1boost if interested.

ya after reading a few threads on here and some articles im just going to go n/a seems safer in the long run until i build up the bottom end thx guys
