Default Solid Roller daily Interstate/StopNgo Traffic

So im Finally getting closer to building my first the right time, but how well do solid roller's hold up on daily driving? I mean I know they make alittle bit more power then Hyds and want to spin near 7-8K rpms with a 355 or 357. Didnt want to go 383 or 396 because I plan on using stock crank & rods and a lot less machine work to save money for a good valve-train. But how bad would it be on the valve-train daily driving a solid roller race engine? Ive heard there are oiling issues at low rpms.

Back when I was a kid I had a BBC with a solid flat tappet cam, I loved that thing. I'm with you, it sure would be nice to be able to run a solid roller but I think they are not as durable as a solid flat tappet. I've read for durability it's best to use solid rollers that don't have needles in them. They may wear out but they won't put needles into the engine.

Use a littler solid roller & some Comp Cams Endure X lifters It oils the rollers directly You can get a 260 or 270 adv duration solid roller cam to keep the revs down The rocker arms just need adjustment every few months is all My buddy had one in his 88 blazer back in the day That 268 SR cam was a brute His crazy *** drove it threw his house & wasnt even in 4wd Lmao Ole Crazy Dave Hes not with us anymore But that K5 would Run

Keep the lobes mild, biggest base circle possible, high ratio rocker arms, and make sure the lifter bores are straight and honed to proper clearance. I'd recommend a Comp RP lobe or low lift RX ob the intake with a 1.7 or 1.8 rocker.

Running shaft mounts with modest lobe acceleration(lower spring pressures) and a pressure fed lifter will extend the lifetime of a street SR setup quite a bit.

Speedtalk and yellow bullet have tons of good reading on the subject.
