I see the ls1 ds is very weak.

what about our iron ds? has anyone broke the stock piece? at what hp level or better yet what 60ft times did it happen?

 

Yes, they break all the time. They are as thin as beer cans. Get a driveshaft loop and drive until it breaks.

 

If it were iron I suspect the limit would be 10,000 HP. Just kidding..

Now the steel LT1 shaft is pretty strong. I've run many low 1.6 60ft times on it. It is 2.5 inches in diameter. Just for extra insurance I upgraded to the steel LS1 shaft with better U-joints. It is 2.75 inches in diameter. You can find them in automatic 2.73 geared LS1 F-bodies.
