Default Stock Water Pump reliability.

About how many miles does your average water pump lasts? IMO mechanical is better then electric. I dont see how an electric can help you save some hp. My old water pump I could turn by hand, and i know my hand isnt no where near 0.09 hp.

Thank you for your valuable insight.

Electric pumps free up HP because the engine no longer has to turn the impeller, but at the cost of less flow at higher RPM versus the stock one.

Stock pumps are very good and flow more as RPM increases.

As said the electric frees up a fairly substantial bit of power by moving less water.

Your turn it by hand test is silly, the waterpump turns faster than the crankshaft, now try and turn it even 600idle rpm by hand not even accounting for the overdrive. Do you have a better understanding now?

How long a mechanical lasts can't really be said, reman shops do varying levels of quality work. Pick a retailer you like and trust their warranty.

Just as one example, my original laster 8 years and 57k miles. My second pump has lasted 7 years and 16k miles, so I dare say my use has gone down

I could spin the 10-bolt diff by hand just as easy as my 12-bolt, or so I thought. The faster it spins the more friction it creates and more resistance is experienced.
