Hello my fellow friends. Been bizy with work and running the LT1 pretty hard lately and still pretty strong. So ive got the suspension in order so now im ready to work on the motor. I recently Beefed up the T56 and bought a new 12 bolt from a junkyard and had put in new 3.73 gears. My question what is a good supercharger or procharger to run with an AI setup. I really should call them before I ask this question. anyways a good 385ci with some boost?! Dont want to go turbo just yet. Your recommendations on a 800hp SC LT1 and being able to do some autobahn daily driving. Decided to stay LT1 to save a few euros.

 

Flywheel or Rear??

Either is posslby, I like the procharger D1SC had one on my own car before building a whipple setup.
Need a good fuel system.

I just put a vortech ysi on my lt1 383. Not sure how much power yet

 

the vortech ysi is one of the most durable superchargers out there. you can make 800+ to the tire with one.you can use std vortech brackets. but the only problem is getting the brackets. you will have to find a used set. the only mod would be clearancing the top bracket were it touches the volute. pulley's can be had from asp.

 

People spin the hell out of the YSI.

 

What I wish is for some one did like A&A or ECS did for the C5s and C6s and make a custom non-cog bracket/pulley set up for the LT1 F-body that was ready to go. House of Boost has one but from what I recall it's a cog set up.

 

About how many pounds of boost can those vortechs handle? im looking for atleast 15 and yes T/A kid I know what kind of money were talking about.

 

I have stock ported heads with a cc305 with my ysi so I will see really high boost (15-18) to only make 600rwhp

 

I would not worry about a specific boost number. You want to make as much power as you can with the lowest amount of boost possible. To answer you ? It will make a lot more that 15psi.

I've seen 650 or so made with only 12 psi from an s-trim.

Set up properly (good cam, heads, exhaust, etc) you should make 800 flywheel no problem with a T-trim or YSi with ~15psi.

800 to the ground may be a different story, particularly on something that's daily driven on pump fuel and run hard all the time. At that level it becomes questionable on whether it'd be reliable on a daily, repeatable basis on pump fuel.

 

Not to rain on the vortec parade but why not an F1-C or F1-R procharger? They move more air and have a steeper step up ratio, so can run a bigger pulley on the supercharger and have less issues with belt slip.

 

i run a F1A on a 383... i just made 430rwhp and 598trq @4000rpm, had 0 degrees advance on the tune (last setup i couldnt put any timing in it, not even factory) and my boost timing retard box was set at 3, so i was retarding timing 3 degrees per PSI and i was making 10-12psi@4k i was also running at 10:1 AFR... we where stepping up the RPM just to check out the new setup and on the 2nd pull the harmonic balancer fell off... the effective range of my cam is supposed to be up to 6800... and this is all through a 700R4 full manual valve body. after being tuned and adding some timing i should have no problem hitting 700rwhp... but i have a crap load of money stuffed into my car...

 

both those head units are good. but i would lean to the vortech because the constant flow of oil. i am unsure of how long the procharger can be ran at sustained speeds before the oil overheats.
