Default LT1 starter & battery question

First off, it's a 12.5.1 CR 396.
It drained my battery too many times cranking on it after trying to work out the new build kinks, and broke my starter toward the end of it all.

So it has a new LT4 starter and a new 690cca battery. Nothing fancy, but a new battery.

Once the car warms up, it does not like to start. Sounds VERY weak, almost as if the battery was weak. But during a cold start it cranks faster, not GREAT by any means, but it's faster.(slower than stock)
Tested battery after a few days of use and it tested above what it was rated. The starter sounds great, no noise other than the typical crank.

I've read about going with a larger gauge starter wire, but I've also seen many people with great success with just bolting th LT4 starter straight on.
Maybe I picked up a faulty starter?
We double checked all the wire connections tonight and even pulled some timing and got the same results.
What do you think?

what do you mean it's weak? like it's cranking slowly?

I changed to the "vette" starter and am happy with it, same speed cranking just a little smoother than the tired stock one that I broke into three pieces.

Sounds like you need larger gauge batter cables.

Electrical stuff expected to support more power needs bigger intake(power wire) and exhaust(ground) just like the engine does.
