Not sure if this gasket is supposed to be here...?

So I'm assembling an LT1 that I bought from a guy in pieces a few months ago. It came with the LE2 head/cam package and also included headgaskets that LE recommended him to use. I guess I wasn't really paying attention, but after I installed / torqued the heads down, I noticed that there is a bit of the headgasket exposed where the oil drains from the head. I really can't think of a better way to describe it, so I took a picture:

So...my instinct tells me the gasket isn't supposed to be there, but from what I can tell they were the correct headgaskets. Is that how it's supposed to be?

I would have trimmed it, but that is not unusual.

Not a problem. I've seen that a few times. Leaving it alone won't hurt.

Because it fits different SBC applications as well. I had a pair of cometics that were the same. You'll be fine.
