Default 1995 trans am is it worth it

hey guys, found a 95 trans am, t top, black leather which is in ok shape some were. The car runs good, has 155,000 miles, new cat back, cai, the only down falls are the rear whines when you let off the gas, he claims some bearing in the rear and said he has driven the car for a year like that. Also needs some bushings i assume because when you go over bumps it creeks a bit, and the passenger fender has a small crack. He wants 2500, and its inspected the woman likes it and if i could get ot close to 2 i dont think it would be a bad deal. Let me know guys!! thanks

Is it a 6-speed or A4? Id take it to a mechanic to find out around how much it would cost to replace the rear whine. It doesnt sound good.

The creeking can be bad swaybar bushings so that should be no problem.

At 2k it might be a good deal depending on how bad the rear whine can be.

Entire rear ends can be had for $200-400 if you look in the right places. No biggy, swap it out in an afternoon/evening. (if it is actually the rear end).

If it only whines on the gas or off it's pretty much always the ring & pinion. If you don't mind the noise you can usually drive them many thousands of miles that way.

Gears whine, bearings growl. Bearing noises seldom change speeding up or slowing.

If the whining is on/off depending on the load of the drivetrain it usually points to backlash. As said, it's really not that big a deal and can be driven indefinitely.
Take a look at the inside of the valve cover through the oil cap hole and see what it looks like. If it's clean then the engine was most likely well maintained. If it's gunky that's a good indication the oil was not changed when it should have and what you see under the valve cover is pretty much a good indication what the rest of the inside of the motor looks like. If it's not blowing any odd smoke, has good oil pressure and isn't low on coolant the price seems reasonable, IMO.

I drove my car with a whine on decel for six years and 30,000 miles so I wouldn't worry too much about the whine.

I would agree that the price seems reasonable but you should still be cautious when buying an 18-year old performance V8.

I know this goes without saying but don't forget to do a Car Fax.
