Default Opti Limits

Hey guys I was thinking hypothetically, if someone was building a standing mile car and was looking to go over 200mph and well over 1k hp would it be possible to do it with the opti?

As in, is there a limit at which you can only spin an opti so high or send only such a strong spark through it without it imploding at a substantially higher rate then we see on more mildly nodded setups.

I'm not askin if it would be smart to retain it, only if there is a service limit to the opti which could be loosely correlated to a hp figure.

My experience a has shown they don't like a lot of RPM. Over 7500 I had issues with the rotor slinging blades. After I addressed that I had optical sensor failures, with evidence of contact with the trigger wheel. I would use a crank trigger, and put a distributor in the back.

I didn't even have to spin to 7000 to kill rotors. Had to move over to a distributor setup for the strip.

Jeff Green's car is well over 1000hp last I heard he was balancing rotors himself and running stock optis. Running a stock pcm too though so only turning 7200

The rotors are an easy fix. MSD rotors should be OK to at least 7000. They didn't exist when I still had one. Large as that rotor, the tip of that blade is really moving at ten grand. LOL

what he said^ my opti lived for 4 years behind my 7krpm 355......it ate the rotor 3 times on my 383 spinning well north of 7000 before i tossed it for a reg dizzy

if i was building a 200mph car i wouldnt be running an opti. its just too easy to eliminate, consider how much money will be invested into the rest of the car.

I've wasted stock and aftermarket optis in just about every way you can, no need to run one if you don't have to.

run a lot of boost and keep the rpm reasonable and it can be done. you would want to change to a different ecm though.
