Went to put the timing set on tonight and the cam gear hits the water pump gear thats on the drive shaft. My question is can I pull the gear from the shaft so I wont have a hole in my timing cover or remove the whole thing and block the hole in the timing cover? Also I just want to be clear my crank sproket is 12 oclock so my cam sproket is going to be 6oclock right?

All double roller chains require removal of the water pump gear. The hole in the timing cover needs to be plugged but the hole in the block does not.

what do I plug the hole in the timing cover with? freeze plug work?

Anything. Freeze plug, weld it closed, quarter and some JB Weld, etc. Get creative.

lol yeah the quarter jb weld is not doubt creative.
