This forum gets more traffic than LT1Tech. Just my $.02, but LT1's can be made just as cool as LS1's if you put them together right. I believe the all out boost LT1 motors are still a bit faster than LS1's. At that level, though, it's cubic money, so comparison is rather pointless. Realistically, first gen smallblocks probably have the best parts available of any motor out there. Hard to beat a motor that has benefited from 40+ years of R&D.

simple you can get roller rockers and a comp custom cam for 400 bucks together. A good set of rockers and a cam for my ls1 will range around 400 for the cam and 500-800 for a good set of adjustable rr.
yeah but i imagine that lt1 was built at half the cost, that TA has a c5r block = 6 grand and C5R heads ported = probably more than the block. I would imagine about 100 grand has been thrown into that car. There are more faster boosted lt1's however. Just need a good build short block and maybe a stud girdle and you have a 20 lb boost motor.

i figured i'm the type to not stop modding, and since my car may one day be a weekend warrior i rather take the rugged lt1 than do that to a niceR ls1 car.
also its tons cheaper, also considered dropping the lt1 in another car, but any car with decent looks is already comprosmising my wallet, oh well.
the lt1 sound better no question much deeper, the 5.0s great also.

As far as year goes, I'd recommend getting a '95 for two BIG reasons:
1)The first year of the vented opti-spark (for the f-body) - very important because the optispark is very picky about any moisture, and the vented is much better. I'll eventually switch my car to vented when I do some engine mods
2)The car is still OBDI. OBDI is much easier to work with as opposed to OBDII found in the '96+ cars. The connector under the dash may be OBDII style, but the computer is still OBDI.
So if you can find a good, clean '95 - go for it!
