Default How are the Lt1's?

Hey guys, I'm gonna be getting an f-body around the middle or end of June probably. I've looked at the LS1's and of course they are badass but how are the Lt1's? I would rather have a 94 or 95 than shell out a couple g's more than I would on an Lt1. I never really see any mod guides or anything like that like I do for the Ls1, am I missing a couple sites that I could look at for Lt1 mod info? Is there any threads on this forum? Can the Lt1 be made to run low 12's without spending bookoo money? I'm very mechanically inclined so tearing into the engine is no big deal for me. This wouldn't necessarily be a drag strip car but one that is more suited for the corners. Its gotta be the six speed too cuz it aint any fun if you aint rowin through the gears yourself.
Thanks,
Mack

I have a 94 Z28, I love the LT1s, I also love the LS1s. But for bang for the buck, LT1 is the way to go. I will keep my LT1 for a long time!

If you know what your doing and how to combine it all correctly you can do much better than 12s with an LT1, plenty out there. Try www.camaroz28.com for a good url with tech data for fbody's.

I love my LT1 personally, even though she hates me.

There's something about LT1s that you just get attached to. None of the LS1 guys believe me, but that's okay. If I sold my car, it'd be replaced with another LT1, even if I had the money to replace it with an LS1.

You can do a lot to the LT1 with veyr little money. LT4 heads and intake will run you about $800 together, if even that. Get them ported and they'll flow like AFRs. With heads and cam you can get into 11s pretty easy as long as you've got the right setup!

you can get LT4 heads from scoggin dickey for $600, and the manifold you can get just about anywhere else for around $200. as for getting them ported i dunno, maybe MTI would do it or something... I'm not from that area.

Depending on compression, tune, cam, and most important head flow you could do about 400-450RWHP with an lt-1 H+C setup.

Thanx guys!!!! That answered all my questions and it looks like the LT1 is a very good engine to me. Is there anymore Lt1 sites besides the camaroz28.com one?
Thanks again,
Mack

LT1 is the nicest sounding engine I've ever heard, other than my friends cammed 468 big block. No non-cam LS1, 5.0 or 4.6 can ever compare to the LT1's exhaust note. Just an added bonus.

And yes, I'm EXTREMELY biased

I think the 'Stangs sound better, but the LT1 comes DAMN close. Nothing sounds like a carbed big block, in my opinion.

LT1's are EXCELLENT motors. And this is coming from a present LS1 driver

I had a 96 SS before this car. I kick myself in the *** everyday for selling it.
