Default Big turbo 383

Hello to all,

I have been getting great info off of here for years now but never posted any of my builds. YET.
I started a build few months back that is new to me and i need some expert help. its a 97 SS M6 383 lt1 with 210 AFR heads solid roller. The lt1 is not new to me but going rear mount on the turbo is. I need to know what a good start for a custom cam be? the engine is going to be a dog on the low end I know that not because of rear mount turbo but because of the 210 AFR. I kept the comp. high with flat top 4 valve release pistons and 65cc heads that run 2.080intake and 1.60exhaust to help with power and torq. down low. im shooting for 800whp id like to keep the turbo large to reduce exhaust pressure and not over run or stress the turbo. i know alot of people might say that my comp. is to high but i have had better success with high hp street cars keeping comp 10.1 or higher.
again i cant tell you how helpfull you have all been maybe i can help the next guy with the Trial and Error i might run into with this build.
Feel free to ask any questions you may have im sure there are pleanty as I left out alot of info.

On the compression many people hear boost and thing 8.5:1 but with an LT1 considering the iron head motors were 10:1 on 87 octane and the LT4 was 10.8:1 factory tuned for 91 octane. If you stay in the low 10s fro compression you are two full points lower than many NA builds.

Far as info needed what PCM are you using?
If staying stock pcm I would just stay hydraulic as you wont have the rpm potential to really make a solid shine and the solid setup will cost a LOT more.

Thank you 96caprice for reading and asking. I was waiting for someone to ask what EMS I will be running LOL. It's the 24x from EFI connection. Not sure what you meant by stock compression ratios for the LTs but at least you are correct. again thank you.

what I meant on the compression is people think 8.5:1 for boost on a gen 1, not considering how much more compression LT1s use even from the factory.

Yes, but I think his massive power goal warrants a CR that low. Everything depends on how much boost you're going to run, the alloy of your pistons, the efficiency of the turbo, and the precautions you'll take to keep the temps down. 800whp with just boost is a tall order.

I'd stay HR, personally. If you're going turbo, a SR setup isn't "needed" for the goals you're aiming for.

What are you planning on running through it? Race gas? Alky? Meth?

Also what type of IC, if at all?

Im running SR for many reasons one being you are limitted on the size of cam with HR. Yes i will be running a IC not sure of choice yet. For fuel will be E85 for the most part and Q16 for track day. I got one cam on the way from Demos cams and LE sending his. LE cam specs are 668 lift 252 248 @50 with 114lsa. Iv never used LE but im sure its a good cut iv been using Steve Demos for years now back when he used to cut cams with John Reed in stockbridge GA. i used to live not far from the Reed brothers back in 2000. ill go between both cams and choose whats best for my goals. steve been cutting some great cams for big turbo Grand nationals.
Myltwon thanks for posting and if you have any suggestions on IC im all ears.
