Please! help needed loud pinging under acceleration

Default Please! help needed loud pinging under acceleration

94 z28 82k miles, I had an opti issue, car would bog down a lot, ses light was on had it scanned and turns out to be opti code, so I bought a used opti off of this forum, was advertised as only 1k miles on it. well finally today I got to install it, now my original problem of bogging down is gone, but I have what I think is spark knock. its pretty bad, doesn't really do it if I rev in park, but in reverse and drive when driving it pings pretty good, if I am light on the gas, it isn't there , or barely there, if I open it up I get pinging like crazy! all I did was change opti, is the opti causing this?????

How long did you drive it with it bogging down? Pull a few plugs and see what they look like.

When is the last time you have put gas in the car and what octane?

only a week or two tops, then it sat at paint shop for a month getting painting, I put gas in it 2 days ago, regular, but it ran fine last two days, ran fine to my friends house where we swapped opti, finished the opti swap now crazy loud pinging

driven it the last 2 days, just fine, drove to friends house just fine, spent 3 hours changing opti, now severe spark knock

Does it run ok other than the pinging. Is there a chance you got one of the wires on wrong cylinder on the cap. I've done that a few times.

car wont start now, I went outside to see it run in dark, tried to start, it turned over maybe 1/8 a turn , I heard a clunk, and now it wont even turn over, it has a brand new battery ( bought today) all it does now is click ( one time ) when I try to start it, and I hear a faint squel of some sort from under the hood, and the positive terminal on battery gets really really hot

yes it ran fine other than pinging, had great power, but it was pinging very loudly under acceleration, no, wires in right spot, they were very easy setup with holders on each side of opti, top to bottom in order no issue there

Flashing SES is a misfire.

94, what not flashing ses, just solid, it was a gm opti , only 1k miles on it

my main problem right now is the car wont start, one click only, not multiple clicks, battery is brand new bought today, and after click I hear a slight whine under hood, maybe starter? and I have interior light dim really hard when I try to start.

Just saw you were running regular fuel in it? You need to use at least 92. If its not cranking over that's a different problem, but you need to change your plugs to fresh ngk tr55s gapped properly and run premium fuel, and see if the pinging goes away.

And check your battery cables for corrosion and make sure they are tight.

Check all your connections/grounds.

If I run Regular in mine in will run like ****. Try putting better gas in and see if it goes away

Just got done checking it out with my mechanic. Guess the snout on the starter is cracked off , he says he has seen it before, defiantly opti related. He says opti fired wrong with piston traveling one way on one cylinder and caused motor to turn backwards snapping the snout or cone off starter, so now i need new starter. And new opti. Yay!!! Lol. Someone offered to buy car as is for 3k. I'm just gonna sell it. Tired of messing with it

I have had this happen to me whith opti problems in the past, caused by me of course lol.

I like how people who don't know what they are doing and mess something up and are like oh well I am just going to sell the car.

Please go buy a Honda Civic and rice it out.
