Hey guys I am having a little issue with the crank reluctor ring on a 97 trans am. The motor we are installing in the car was set up to be OBD-I and of course the 97 LT1 cars are OBD-2. So no big deal just convert the new engine over to OBD-2 but the issue I am now facing is the guy that was helping me lost the reluctor ring key for the OBD-2 crank. I have tried to order one from EFI connection but for some reason it took 10 days to ship and I am now out of time. I am moving 800 miles from Fort bragg NC to Fort drum NY and needed to drop this car off in VA to be put into storage. I literally move in 4 days and the key will not be here until the day before I move. If I align the reluctor ring up with the OBD-1 timing key (it does not have the extension for the ring) and make two small tac welds on each side would this be ok. I know some extreme LSX guys do this but I have never been forced to. I would not consider this unless I was out of every possible option. I have test fit the ring onto the new crank and it fits snug. The OBD-1 key does extend a hair past the crank timing sprocket so I am positive I can align the reluctor in the correct orientation

Just get a normal key and custom file it for your needs.

If I am not mistaken its that little lip that sticks out on the right side that holds the wheel.

No, that is the back. The early key without the reluctor is the same way. It is the other side that sticks out farther in front of the crank gear that holds the reluctor.
