idle/ performance problam plz help i have a 1997 camaro z28 i just put a new motor in it installed a new opti timming chain reluctor wheel now for the problam car idles low around 500 rpm shakes when i put it into gear its worse whont stay running i can drive it if i hold foot on gas but has no power at all whont even spin tires and back fires out of the exaust and intake its running rich i even had gas in the oil at one point in time not sure whats going on i to have a crankshaft range/performance code
Sounds like you either:
A) Got dud opti
B) Got a cheapo Chinese knockoff opti
C) Didn't install the opti correctly
D) All of the above
What sort of opti did you install? Did you replace the opti harness too? Can't hurt to double check your wires again too.
FWIW, I wouldn't bother with anything but a real GM opti or the MSD one which is $$$...no complaints here running the MSD.

if you look through my threads youll see i had a similiar problem, everyone sounds about right. Opti, mine was internally off time cause all sorts of trouble and i spent ages chasing down the probleem. this was a chandler unit and was complete garbage. I then put an orielly one in and that last maybe 2k mile now im rocking a ac delco unit and have been going strong for a couple months, fingers crossed!
