Default Bad Crank Position Sensor???

Hello, ive a 96 z28. My car will start up and run in the beginning of the day but after I turn it off for 10 minutes it wont start back up for hours sometimes, it backfires, stumbles, just cranks and cranks. It has a new fuel pump, new fuel pressure regulator, fuel guage reads 40 PSI, new coil, new icm, new cap and rotor, new plugs & wires. The car has good grounds. Coil wire has spark, after cranking it just smells flooded so I know its getting fuel. I get codes for EGR, and evap but ive deleted them from the engine, I get a code that reads "no description found". I think ive narrowed it down to either the crank position sensor or the distributor itself (not the cap and rotor). Would a bad crank position sensor cause my car not to start? Ive searched but couldnt find a definitive answer.

The crank sensor is only used for misfire detection and not spark delivery on the LT1. So, it is unlikely that it would cause a no-start situation. What code do you get that says 'no description found'? Don't rely on a scanner's database for your code descriptions. They are often wrong. There is a link in my sig for correct codes for the 4th gen LT1s.

Im not sure of the exact code but thats the only description it gives me, im just using the superchip flashpac from my truck to read the codes. Im guessing im gonna have to get a whole new distributor and try that, just a hassle becuz I just got it all back together after the cap and rotor. I was getting a high res code which some say is for he optispark, I thought it would change after the cap and rotor but i guess not

The cap and rotor won't fix a resolution code. That is for the optical section of the distributor.

Thats what I figured, I was just hoping I wouldnt have to take it all back apart. This is my second time replacing the cap and rotor in the last 2 years. Not really that bad of a job, but I ordered a new distributor it should be here Tuesday hopefully that fixes it.

Hopefully you ordered a genuine GM opti and not a Cardone or Chandler or MSD or Accel or Autozone or any other junk.

Have you tried unplugging the front O2 sensors to see what happens?
