Default Torque Arm delete

I have used the search function and have tried to find what that I'm looking for. I have done a th400 swap and I am about to buy a torque arm and I want to make sure that I have done all my homework and make the right purchase. I was looking to use the UMI suspension tunnel mount but if I could delete the torque arm completely that would be great. I searched and found something but no links to buy anything. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great. I have the UMI drag springs 50/50 drag shocks lakewood control arms and Lakewood adjustable panhard bar. Thanks in advanced

Without the torque arm the differential would rotate upward and cause serious damage. Other cars use different methods to control this, like a 4-link on Fords.

Short version - you need the torque arm in some sort of variation.

Aside from doing a 4-, 5-, 6-link, truck arm, or ladder bar conversion, you're stuck with running a torque arm. Have you only looked at UMI?

There was a company I think in upstate NY that had a kit the eliminated the torque arm-it was basically more control arms, like a four link. I don't know if anybody bought it and I can't find anything about it now.

I would HIGHLY recommend a torque arm and torque arm relocation bracket from UMI or BMR.

That's what I figured. I only looked at UMI as it bolt to the tunnel brace mount and figured it would work best with my setup. as I made my own cross member for the th400 I would have to modify it for a long torque arm so spohn wouldn't work and the bmr tunnel brace requires welding to the sub-frame connectors and that would be difficult as I fabricated my own. So that's why I was looking into UMI. plus I can pick it up at the warehouse.

Here ya go.

http://www.spohn.net/shop/1993-1997-...rs-Y-Pipe.html

Eliminates using the trans mount, mounts directly to the chassis. Called a short style torque arm, many companies make them, UMI, BMR, Madman, MWC, etc

The tunnel torque arm mounts that are flat should not hit anything more than a stock car will. It's the tunnel mounts with the dropped section for long tubes that hit everything. Of course, this depends whether or not you dropped your car.

The Spohn tunnel mount I bought for my now gone '94 Formula was clearly welded wrong-way out of position. Spohn flatly refused to do anything about it even when shown photos. As I was locked into a Spohn torque arm, I had to purchase a replacement mount which was properly done. They still refused to cover it.

It was a really really aggravating moment.

There have been a few stories like this. This is why I recommended UMI or BMR.

I got my standard duty spohn tunnel mount by trading rod ended LCAs which i didnt want anymore and couldn't turn down the deal, seems fine so far, although I've only put maybe 5 miles on it. Have not scraped on anything yet, but the standard series spohn tunnel mount has a history of failing, I know I'm taking a gamble but we shall see. I feel no more road noise or vibration than my long BMR with UMI relo, and love how the rear stays level with the front under braking as it completely eliminated nose dive. I need LCA relos now tho since my car is lowered and they point down so I'm not taking advantage of the off the line "hit" the short style is capable of.

Search "mini ladder bar", a few guys have done those on 8.8s and had success.
