Default LT1 or 400 ?

Hello new to the forums, looks like a great place to learn some new things..

Ok I have a 77 c10 with a warn out 400 small block needs overhaul but I dont have funds to do a proper build on it right now..

Now I have a chance to pick up a 94 Pontiac firebird with a LT1 cheap!
Would this be a good choice of engine to put in a older truck.. Im sure there's gonna be a lot of things involved in adding wiring harness and computer but I also could just use my intake and carb setup from the 400 if i have to??
I guess my question is...Is it gonna be to much trouble using this engine in a older truck and is this a good engine to use? Am I gonna be happy with the performance of this engine?
Or am I better off saving the time and money and just rebuild the 400?

Thanks for the help and taking a look

Remove the Opti, plug the drive hole for it. Buy a GM LT1 Carb intake. Drop in a normal distributor. Put a normal Carb on the intake. Will need an electric fuel pump.

Link to the GM LT1 Carb intake, I think I got one laying around somewhere. Did a couple of dyno pulls with it on a 388ci LT1 and was going to stick it in my 72 C10 but someone bought my longblock and I still have the intake.

Drop a Eagle balanced rotating assembly with flat tops into your 400 and you will be happy. Keep the cam mild for low end drive ability.

I would love to but your talking 2grand just for the rotating kit.
Im gonna build the 400 just gonna take me some time to do it right.
That's why I was just gonna get the LT1 just to get the truck back running and driving but didnt know how hard it was gonna be to make this engine work.
Thanks for the help though you got the right idea..

Thanks bro great info on the intake might have to go that route.
How hard would it be to run the engine with the harness in my truck?

If you go carb, you shouldn't need a wire harness.....

BTW......I have a set of LT4 heads and a LT4 carb intake if you're interested.

PM me if interested.
