Default Blown lt1 broken crank n block any ideas

Hi guys i have a few ?'s i had swapped in a 96 lt1 4l60 into my 89 Cadillac fleetwood. car ran fine lots of power than one day merging on highway BOOM. look under car oil everywhere crank broken motor was bought with 38000 miles from a crashed Impala SS no warning oil pressure fine no vibration nothing just wondering what could of happened the block is broken up front too i have pics

That would be a pretty freak failure. The stock crank is pretty good, guys have no problem whatsoever doubling the stock power and more on the stock crank.

Was the car hit in the front and the crank was hit maybe? I looked at a motor in a car once and the core support was an inch from the balancer and I was sure it had touched on impact. Could it have had an aftermarket crank? Eagle cast cranks are popular in rebuilds and are a BIG step backwards from stock.

Hi the car was hit in the side rear motor totally stock the bearing fell out there was no wear so the motor had 38000 miles. I will post pics when I h be enough posts I am worried I have a 94 corvette n lt1's r good motors. I just found a replacement motor from a 95 ss but this motor I will do a timing chain n cam roller rockers hope I don't have issues got me worried I have 2 ls motors hanging around but I have aready spent the money for thelt1 harness trans n ecu

very off failure on a stock LT1. maybe if something in the drivetrain "suddenly" locked up but still very rare for a crank to snap

It is possible that the donor car accident was the initial cause possibly resulting in a crack in crank that finally let go...

Casting number on the crank? There is a guy on here who runs 9s with a stock shortblock. There are plenty of others around who can vouch for the stock crank's strength.

Ditto… no way to know, but clearly the impact damaged the bottom someway. Could be as simple as some tweak to something close to a journal, eventually just sawing the thing down until it snapped.

It would be like an oiled saw… works very well.
