Default Run LT1 built for boost with no boost :(

Just looking to get back on the road. I lost interest sold my Trans Am a few years ago, tried selling the motor but no takers so I kept it and never ran it. I just recently purchased a 97 Camaro with a locked down engine. I was thinking about throwing the low compression motor I had built in it for now. Maybe this will get me motivated to start throwing money at it again. Will it hurt any to run this with no turbo/super charger for a while...?

Most people will break in turbo motors with out the turbo. But yeah should not be a problem. My buddy did that with his eclipse for a month before the turbo went on.

If anything I think it would be better to run a fresh motor without boost or much boost at all so you can seat the rings and really break everything with little drama. It's gonna be a dog but who cares.

Absolutely nothing wrong with running a low-compression FI engine without boost. That's precisely what I did for a while.

Really wasn't even much of a "dog" as everyone claims -- a full compression point only accounts for maybe 3~4% difference in power. On a 300hp~400hp engine, that equates to a 10 to 20 hp loss. No big deal.

On the plus side, you can also run lower octane gasoline if you want -- save some money at the pump.

Good deal... Cant wait to get started now. It would be nice to bolt on 150+ HP when I get the turbo. On another note. I have ls7 lifters i was planning to install. Should I keep these or upgrade to _____? I have a built forged, splayed main 355. A.I. Turbo cam, trick flow heads and plan on running around 15#'s when the time comes. Rather switch out now while the motor is out.

My 9:1 383 made 360whp before boost and ran a 11.70... Go for it!
