I still stand by the fact that its not a corvette motor unless its actually in a corvette. Refering to it as a corvette motor when it is in a camaro is just plain ignorant.

Does that still apply for those who use Corvette valve covers and engine covers that display a rather large CORVETTE insignia on their f-bodys?

I think its stupid honestly. Its like puting z badges on a v6 and going well it is a z28 body. My frcs dont say anything on them and when I went looking for them I went looking for a set that said camaro or nothing at all.

My car is also a v6 to lt1 conversion and if you look at my car it has no z28 or ss badging on the car any where.

Lol, well my friend i am 44 and lived in TX for my High School years and i can promise you i was around some old school car guys that spoke of these cool but rather antiquated combinations.. i do thank them for the knowledge and experience they shared with me.
I do miss the references to the four and a quarter horse 4 speed cars.

Years ago I went to go look at a Roady wagon on a used car lot, soon as I tell the guy inside what car I want a better look at the other salesman excuses himself and the salesman I am talking to suddenly has his desk phone ringing. He proceeds to start answering questions about the Buick with the Corvette motor................
Yeah like I was born yesterday.

I agree with the others of you who say when someone refers to the LT1 as a "corvette motor" I basically presume them stupid and don't much bother beyond that.

Far as what constitutes "scary fast" all a matter of experience, met LOTS of folks over the years who thought they had something quick till they got a little slip of paper with a MEASUREMENT. My favorite was a guy at the track with a 70s 454 Vette that looked down his nose at my ugly car, when we lined up and I believe I waxed him by more than 2 seconds he didn't even stop in the pits went right from the return road to the exit.

One of the most annoying things ever...
I realize not everyone is a gearhead and knows any better but the "VETTE" motor thing is annoying. It's not just the LT1 either. I heard it from LS1s to TPI 350s. There was a guy on craigslist trying to sell his 3rd gen camaro with a "vette motor" in it.... It literally did come from a vette but...it was a junk 190 HP carbed 350 out of an '80 corvette... Just cause it's from one doesn't mean it was fast or worth a ****.

Everytime I'm on craigslist browsing just about every third gen has one and all the 4th gens have one. I don't think anyone in the high desert has any clue what fbodies came with.

Technically speaking, a true 92-96 "corvette motor" does have the fancier vavletrain noise canceling (and prettier) valve covers with the Corvette flag emblems and the "Corvette" intake covers instead of the plain jane black valve covers on a "lesser" LT1s....but I would agree that 99% of people (usually old timers) misuse the phrase "Corvette motor". It's still happening in the LS/new LT world......."I just picked up 4.8 LS Vette motor from the junkyard!"
