Default LT1 plug pictures. Whats wrong??

Recently did an auto to manual swap. Ended up going with a mail order tune since I had no other option. I had him switch up the engine tune as well since I paid for it along with flashing it for a m6. figured my hotcam tune is pretty easy to get right and maybe I would benefit from some changes.

Anyways, this is after 400 miles or so of driving. the plugs were new. NGK irridiums gapped at .050. mods in sig. Car seems to be running fairly rich, exhaust is super strong and makes my eyes water and my exhaust tips turn light black after 1/2 tank of gas. I have a free re-tune so I wanted to send it back to make some changes. just trying to get an idea whats going on,

Any signs of what is going on with the engine from looking at these pictures? why is it only on one side? why is it black and slightly tan around the tip? why is the electrode hook thing light grey? this #1 but all looked similar

Your better off using a scanner to get some real time information - O2 sensor, fuel trims. Heck OB II can even see misfires and shut down fuel to a dead cyl.

That black on one side of spark plug shows rich and direction of burn. If your interested u could try indexing your plugs. This is installing the plug with the electrode away on the far side of the intake vlv. Just place a black felt marker stripe on the porcelain same side as electrode and install opposite the intake vlv. U can use washers they sell for this or just buy enough spark plugs and install until u find the right plug for the right cyl.

it honestly looks like its just having trouble firing whether its a weak spark or lack of fuel, the grey ground strap is normal, you should see a blueish heat mark right at the bend, too far down its too much timing, too far up not enough.........you should see heat marks 2 threads down the plug, further down too hot further up too cold

Interesting.

Is it normal for it to only be on one side like that? it makes sense with the whole direction of burn but alot of car spark plugs ive seen always have a nice tan color all around, not just on half. i dont know if its a big deal or not?

those plugs cannot be used to determine the correct heat range, WOT A/F, or WOT timing.

Mail order tunes can only get you so close, if you want it perfect you will need to get it dyno tuned as well as have the part throttle driveablity adjusted
