coolant pipe to back on intake

coolant pipe to back on intake does anyone know what the purpose is of the coolant hose that comes off the radiator near the overflow hose. this hose runs to a metal pipe that then continues to the back of the intake I believe? I bent the pipe trying to pry off the hose connector like an idiot.

yea just read that a few min ago. dude your a wealth on knowledge on the lt1 man! your website has saved me so many times, thanks for all the knowledgeable posts and the website!!!!
The correct hose is Gates 18308. My steam pipe is also dented where the rubber hose was crimped to the hard line. I believe the dent happened at manufacture because I cut the crimp off with no prying involved. Push your new rubber line on past the second bead in the steam pipe and clamp it there so it seals correctly.
