Cam question
I am looking into a 383 stroker kit for my lt1 and my question is would my comp cam 503 be a good cam for the stroker kit or would another cam be a better pick? And right now the heads have the upgrade valve springs for the cam

No it's not really a great choice, it would be a VERY conservative cam for a 383, it would have stock like driveability and be very torquey from low rpm however. I have the lunati voodoo 60122 231/239 cam and most here would call that conservative for a 383, it has very good driveability....more important question is are these heads ported? If not, 383 stroker is not going to add significant HP, maybe 20hp....just more torque. I'd get a cam similar to mine if you want mild....or bigger if you want to spin it to 6500+ RPM. Are emissions a concern at all? If your heads aren't ported, just get some ported heads and skip the stroker kit, otherwise it would be like a truck motor; all torque and disappointing high rpm HP. A 383 needs to breathe...as in ported heads and healthy cam; and don't make the mistake like some on here and leave the CR at stock, you want 11:1 MINIMUM.

Agree with the above. Since this gets asked all the time, what "kit" are you looking at? If it has a cast crank and junk pistons please step away imediately. Getting your heads done and a nice cam on the stock motor would benefit you more than a budget 383.

Proper cam selection is predicated MORE on static compression ratio than on cubic inches. If your static compression is gonna be in the 10.8 to 11:1 neighborhood, then the 503 cam is a good choice.
BUT.....I'd prefer a cam with a bit more lift if the heads continue to build flow into the .600" to .650" range.
