Default Anything to worry about?

I've have my car apart for a couple months putting in a new AC and water pump. It's my weekend toy so I have other priorities, no time....

I cleaned off any oil residue or signs of leaks when I replaced opti and water pump seals. About a week later I noticed a little dampness between the block and passenger side head at the front, so I wiped it down. A week later same deal and I have repeated 3-4 times. Its not much, barely anything but is definitely damp (looks like oil). Is it OK for a little oil to be there or do I need to worry? I don't have the time or money to tear this down right now. Obviously since a water pump and compressor have taken me 2 months!!

Thanks and appreciate the forum!

It's not unusual to damage the seals when R&R the water pump/opti. There's a lot written on DIY techniques to avoid that.

No, this is at the front of the motor between the head and block.

There's two types of leaks at three levels that we qualify in Aviation. The types are static and dynamic. The levels are 1 (seepage), 2(drips forming), and 3(drips falling making a puddle).

You have a static level 1 leak. You shouldn't have any leaks, but it may not be a big deal.

Clean the residue off, get the engine running up to operating temp. Check for a Dynamic leak (leaking under pressure), also check for coolant in oil, oil in coolant, bubbling in radiator, and water in exhaust (white smoke).

If your leaking stops I wouldn't worry about it. If it continues at the same rate keep an eye on fluid levels until you can replace the leaking gasket. If it get's worse replace gasket ASAP (this includes any fluids going where they shouldn't be).
