Default 1997 Trans am noob nitrous question

Hello,
I have a 97 TA
I am going to the track in a few weeks and I want to add nitrous

Right now it is a full bolt on a4. Car with 3 inch exhaust.

I am really thinking about running nitrous,

Nitrous outlet makes a kit for that car what else would I need I don't want to blow the engine it has 80k miles on it, I know to run cooler plugs with 93 oct gas,

My question is do I have to pull timing
Do I need a bigger fuel pump.
How bad is it to run a 100 shot on a engine

If the launch is good what do you think the time may be

Thank you,
Dave

100 shot on your car is fine. I think that on the conservative side one degree of timing pulled is all that is needed on a 100 shot, but I'm pretty sure you can get away without that. That being said, if you haven't already had your PCM tuned your doing yourself a huge injustice. I ran a Nitrous Outlet plate kit with a 150 shot on a stock bottom end with zero issues. One step colder plug and upgrade to a 255 in the tank to prevent lean spike on activation (providing you're running a wet kit) and tap right off the fuel rail schrader valve. Running GOOD fuel is key in a nitrous application, detonation is your enemy. Spray away, and welcome to the "bottles are for babies" club.

What ^^^^ he said. Just make sure you are running non-projected tip plug. I ran 150 shot on my 200k stock motor for few years. I went 11.2@ 120mph. Good luck and have fun .

window switch and fuel pressure cut off switch are the things most kits don't come with.

What do you think of this one?:
http://www.nitrousoutlet.com/efi-wet...te-system.html

also what brand of in tank pump do you feel is the best, i dont want to blow a engine to save a few dollars, from a quick search it seems walbro 255lph is what some people are using

Get a Mallory 685 box, it has all the features you need to spray nitrous.

That's the same nitrous kit I run with the exception being mines a 58mm kit. The only issue I have with it is that it only supports a 200hp jet, for my new build I'd like to hit it with 300 *sigh* maybe next year I'll work on that. That window switch is the one I run as well, easy to work and will support a two stages if need be in the future. A Walbro 255 is all you need, mine doesn't even drop .1psi on activation with a 150 shot as seen on my FP gauge, and if interested I'll yank mine for you, I'm going to a 340lph, I know people complain about the whine of a Walbro but honestly I don't even hear mine, supposedly the Aeromotive Stealth pumps are quieter...Regardless, you'll love it!

Damn so even if you have an aggressive tune for NA you can just slap a 100 shot on and be ok? All that's needed is a window switch? And maybe colder plugs and a fuel pump? If so I might consider this..

I wouldn't say that, I would still feel better pulling a couple degrees especially if you have agressive timing IMO. Good fuel would really help though.

If a setup has been properly tuned before, then timing will need to be pulled 3 degrees for every 50hp shot added.

to kris72079- You can run direct port as well as a plate setup together. Second stage the dp. Our heads flow enough you could up the shot even more.

I'm running a set of LE blessed AFR195s that flow 311 @ .700 with a 217cc runner, so flow is good! I would LOVE to go direct port but 1. Don't know if I want to machine my intake for it and 2. Am 90% done my build right now that has drained me financially (along with a new home build). I need to build my stand alone fuel system for the nitrous system fuel solenoid too. SOOO want to go dp on second stage just can't see an economical way to do it...
