Default 383 LT1 LE Trickflow build

Figured I'd star a build thread to keep track of everything and get advice along the way.

The car: 93 Camaro, 6 speed, 12 bolt, Strano springs, Koni shocks, C5 Brakes, Mostly upgraded suspension, EFI 24x conversion yadayadayada

The motor:
383 LT1
.040 over
-5cc Mahle pistons
Scat H beam rods
Scat forged crank
Arp hardware
Splayed 4 bolt main
LE trickflow heads
Mild hydraulic roller probably 239/247 range
Ported intake
LPP longtubes and Y
Magnaflow catback
Melling stock volume higher pressure pump (10554)
Moroso Oil pan (20185)
58mm BBK/Edelbrock TB
Over the radiator intake
single roller timing set (cloyes9-3157)
Fel pro 1074's

First issue: the oil pan scraper is making contact with the main caps in 2 places. I'm up in the air on whether to just notch the new 280$ oil pan or go another route. Once the oil pan gasket is added will i have added clearance?(its in the mail)... Last pic shows the small areas that would need to be notched. Pics for reference:

Oil pan gasket should "lift" the pan away from the block another 1/8-1/4" or round abouts.

Looks like you're gonna have one hell of a LT1 once you're done.

when you get the gasket mock up with TC in place, check to see if the clearance issue is still there.

Is the clearance issue where there are 2 marks on the screen?

or?

Yup there are 2 sets of 2 black marks in the pan on the scraper where it makes contact. I completely spaced on throwing the timing cover on first and checking with that on thanks for the heads up!

Great work, I like how it looks like you welded the shock towers.

Make sure to roll the motor over a few times with the pan in place to check for clearance. I had 4 rods hit the crank scraper in that pan. I had to grind notches for them to clear. You may be ok since you have a 3.75" stroke and mine is 3.875", but you should still check.

Also, make sure to clean the pan out really well. Mine had a bunch of dirt and weld slag in the front baffled compartment.

Looks like a great build! What's your static compression ratio gonna be?

I actually considered doing that but kinda realized that was a bit too much work for the return on a basic street car.

Good call. nothing hits thankfully but the pump is barely touching one of the studs. And to think I thought I would be able to just slap all this stuff together.

I wasn't terribly impressed with that either. The weld on the interior had a couple of 1/2" pieces of welding wire still sticking outta the welds.

I was planning on around 11.5-1 but Lloyd said a lil more compression might be a good thing as the cam will bleed off some cylinder pressure and keep my DCR in the sweet spot. It's really up in the air still. The deposit is in the mail to him so I haven't squared away the exact details on head CC and cam size quite yet.

Great effort and should be a stout set up, you'll really like having the 24X coming from the old 93 chip style ECM.

Yeah getting the car tuned a few years ago was I nightmare. Never ran right and surged with the baby cam it had in it. It had some weird piggy back chip that wouldnt work without it and I couldn't find the right chip since these things are as rare as unicorns apparently.

Welp second minor issue. The oil pump wont seat all the way as it contacts the main stud. My first instinct is to slightly clearance the pump just enough to squeeze into place. Any major reason why i shouldn't? Pics for reference:

I had the same issue. I just barely clearanced the oil pump. My stud wasn't quite as far up as yours is. Maybe you can loosen the nut and see if the stud is all the way down?

I just went ahead and clearanced the pump it seemed easier at the moment (thankfully it worked!) Pan was notched and now it sits perfectly flat. Gonna get the pickup installed today along with hopefully the timing gear and reluctor on the crank. Waiting on the cam and heads so i can really get cruising on assembly.

Got a lil bit of progress. Painted the intake, timing cover and water pump. Still waiting on the heads and cam which should be here mid week. Still need to get rockers, pushrods, injectors and some other misc crap. any suggestions on rockers? Im leaning toward the lunati voodoos or ultra pr mags from comp.

Wouldn't this techinically be a 385 with .040 over pistons?

Anyway looks good! Can't wait to get my '93 done.

Looks good. What kind of main caps did you go with? Out of curiosity how much did a machine shop charge to do the caps? Are they stepped?
