do you have VATS?

the new key would need to be programmed for VATS if that's what you have

So the new key from GM wont turn inside the new cylinder? If that's the case I'd say go back to that dealer or call them 1st. If your new key has the chip and it's the right resistance it should work.

yeah so ur saying she cut it wrong? or something because the pattern looks right and im pretty sure she had the right resistance because i gave her the key with the right resistance... the locksmart igniton lock cylinder that i bought from autozone came with two blank keys that dont have a resistor that is normal correct? the wierd part about it is that i can turn the igintion on with the 2 blank keys i got from the new igniton lock cylinder but the new gm key i got wont even turn...

sounds like the dealer did not cut the key correct if it wont turn the lock. if the VATS resistor in new "dealer" key is right that it should work....but without being able to turn that key you wont know

you need to go back to dealer and get a key that "physically" works and "electronically" matches your original VAT resistance

ok so i havent gotten the time to go back to the dealership but i found a way to put the gm key into the igniton and try to start it. i put the blank key in and turned it a little bit just past the lock position took it out and put the gm key in. I got the same result a blinking security light and i also got a clanking noise from the passenger under dash?

Pretty clearly the key is not totally correct both in the cut and the resistance.

Did you have the dealer cut the key from the vin key code or did they use the old worn key to make a copy?

A blank key should NOT allow the lock cylinder to turn.

The key unlocking the cylinder and allowing it to turn and the VATS pill are two separate systems and functions.

Assuming the key cylinder is the vehicle's original, have them cut a key from code. It won't be worn down like the one you have-and they used to cut a copy.

I see. It should have came with a non-resistance key that you'd take to a locksmith and have a key with the correct resistance pill in it cut from.

Do you still have one of these original keys?

If the key doesn't turn it was copied wrong OR you installed the cylinder incorrectly.

If the key turns but the car won't start and the security light is on the resistance pill is wrong. It must match what was in the vehicle's original key.

i believe the key was copied wrong because the orginal key that came with the new cylinder turns the igniton but the vats key dosent.

Woah, wait. So you had the dealer cut your new key using the OLD key as a template? Well no kidding it won't turn. You're supposed to have them cut a key to the NEW key that came with the cylinder, and only use the pellet value from the old one.
