Default Draining antifreeze with shop vac

Looking to drain my antifreeze so I can tear off the WP again to change the WP drive seal "its leaking" and was wondering about the shop vac trick to blow the antifreeze out of the block? Don't really want to pull knock sensors!

Open the drain on the radiator and put the shop vac on blow where the thermostat is???

Just drain the coolant and then pull the waterpump, I've never had to do anything else...

Just open the drain valve and pull the water pump off. It's really not that complicated. Just have a drain pan under the water pump when pulling the bolts off. There's one of them holding coolant back. Can't remember which one right not.

I realize to pull the radiator drain plug, and the driverside lower wp bolt is the one that drains coolant. What I am trying to achieve is to drain the antifreeze below the wp level so when I take it off antifreeze doesn't soak the optispark. I will have to research more there is a shopvac trick that flushes all the antifreeze out of the engine/radiator!

Once you have all the hoses off and the bolts out, it will be below the level you need to to be. I've had my water pump off a bunch of times. Never once soaked the opti.

I understand where you're going with this, although you're making it a little more complicated than necessary. However, If you insist on getting the coolant level in the block, lower than the WP, my suggestion would be this....

Open the radiator's drain ****. While the radiator is draining, assuming your shop vac is a wet/dry unit, empty and wash out the vac really well. Then remove the t'stat, and use the vac to suck out the coolant from the block. If you've washed out the vac really well, before you do this job, you should be able to re-use the coolant without any proble.

Ugh...

Drain radiator

Remove hoses

Remove two bottom w/p bolts that tap into water jackets

lower vehicle

let coolant drain

raise vehicle

boom

Either that or just take **** apart and use paper towels to mop up around the water jackets before placing new gaskets on block.

Also, just wrap the Opti with towels to minimize the coolant that gets on it...
