Make sure to ask for pics of the bottom of the intake. The entire intake is powder coated. Not just the outside. If someone merely painted one odds are they didn't paint the bottom side.

I have a LT-4 Intake and its not painted on the bottom (has over Spray on it), but you can see paint on the runners inside.

There are red overtones at least. Mine is completely red, but yeah it would appear looking inside the plenum would be the best step to ensure it is genuine.

The 12550631 is the casting number, plus the extra meat on the ports is a tell tale sign. They were originally powder coated red but could be painted any color.

You do understand the extra meat above the intake ports is the only difference right?

Internally they are the late small trapezoidal port LT1 intake. Seems like most 95 and older stuff was more rectangular and larger.

The LT4 heads had big ports but the intake did not, this also means a little TIG work can make an LT1 intake a really good substitute, add material above the port so it can be port matched to a head with a bigger intake port.

Me, or the op ? Everyone knows the ports are the same and there is no added value. It was about looking at a manifold from 10' away and telling if it's a LT1 or LT4.

It should be common knowledge but it really isn't. See the guy below you asking $400 as evidence that many people still suffer a delusion it is special.

It is special from a somewhat aesthetics standpoint. The LT4 engine is famous and most familiar for its rarity, power increase over the LT1, 4-bolt main and red intake. For some those are selling points. Most who are in the market for them are not familiar with the functionality or care.

Right, but most do not bother painting the bottom or inside the plenum.

Lloyd Elliot can add the extra aluminum to the LT1 intake ports to fit LT4 heads for around $150-200. Don't quote me on that price, but it's a lot cheaper than a LT4 intake.

Guys have run LT1 intakes unmodified on LT4 heads, the sealing margin is just narrow at top.

I have no direct experience with an lt4 intake but I do agree with you. I was more so posting that link for the pics.

You can also see the other difference in the link. Some LT4 manifolds don't have the egr provisions.

I have a genuine GM factory LT4 EGR block off plate. Wonder if I could get a cool mill for it?
