I think I will at least take the plugs out and fog the cylinders before turning it over. That should hopefully eliminate the possibility of damaging the walls, the only other thing I am worried about is if there is still enough oil residue on all the rotating components to not cause any bearing or wear damage. I could alleviate that worry by taking off the intake manifold and priming the system, but I REALLY don't want to prolong this project another month or 2 (I hope I don't regret that decision!).

The tank has been dry for about 4 years, after installing a new 255 pump, and injectors are brand new. Basically everything on this car is brand new, except the engine was used.

Could build a pressurized preoiling rig like they use on LS motors.

change the oil and filter, fog it and pull the coil wire off and crank for oil pressure. Then fire it up!

You're over-thinking this. I had a LS2 sitting on a block of wood in my garage, upside down, without any oil pan or windage tray, and only had it covered with some paper. It was basically an assembled shortblock sitting upside down on a block of wood in my garage.

After a year, I pulled the main caps and some rod bearings to inspect for scouring and there was plenty of oil film on all components.

Change the oil and fire that bitch up.

You could turn it over by hand with the plugs out after you fog it.

Otherwise known as fogging oil, commonly used on all sorts of seasonal stuff like lawn mowers, snow blowers, fourwheelers, boats etc. any hardware store should carry it.
