ls1 steering shaft
ls1 steering shaft Can someone explain the best way to modify a ls1 steering shaft to work for a lt car for my lpps. I tried searching but cant understand what exactly needs to be modified. People have grind down some rivets off and turned it and welded back together but some say not the weld and to push pins thru with a hammer and screwdriver so it can still function and collapse during any front end impact. Any advice or pictures would be very helpful thanks.
You will see on the side that connects to the rack where it meets the 1/2 shaft or what ever size it is, it sits in groves that at the end are flared to keep the joint from coming apart.
I used a hammer and punch and pushed the flares in, had to hammer the joint off to rotate it to the correct position, used a ruber malet to put it back in place them flared the ends again using a hammer and punch and was done.
