I went over the routing so many times I thought I was nuts lol. Had my buddy checked and the shop just put on a new opti so they were done again. They're was a crack in the opti so they replaced it, I guess it's possible the opti was the prob before and now the wires are wrong? I'll look it over

What brand opti did they use? Did the old one work properly before? I've found it's not a good idea to eliminate the optispark 100% as a potential cause....even if it was just replaced with a "good" one recently. Some are just defective out of the box; others aren't worth a damn to start with.

Check your coolant temp sensor and connector. The one on the water pump.
Open circuit will cause very rich running.

well its off to a new mechanic! those guys couldn't figure it out and wanted to tear it down. my buddy suggested this other shop so I called him up and we had a 20min convo about it, sounds like he knows allot about modified engines unlike most grease monkeys and has allot of experience with LT1s. urgh what a waste of money.. wish I had time to drop the k member so I could bare to work on it but when I've got the time I dont have the money and when I have the money I dont have the time. dang kids, this my real baby! lol j/k

Did you ever get your tune verified by somebody else or try a different tune? It may not be a mechanical issue at all....

nah I've been busy fishing out of state, haven't been home in a couple months. does ion ever mess up? I've never heard of that happening before. I'm just gonna get it retuned cause I'm gonna have the new mechanic throw the 30#svo's on which I had sent off, they'll be back before this new mechanic is ready.

I've also been debating about getting the valve guides fixed in my LE2's and get them put on.. I just don't like paying what that will cost to do, mechanics around here are all 100+ an hr and swapping heads aint that hard but I'll get raped on the bill. do you think it could be an issue with the heads? they're just stockers with upgraded valves and springs, never really had them checked out just sent them out to have them cleaned up like new before I put them on and the shop I had send them out supposively checked all the springs.. I should probably get them fixed just incase it comes down to tearing the engine back down cause if that has to happen I'd be kicking myself if these weren't ready to throw on.

Stock heads should be fine. I'm almost 99.9% sure you just need a good tune.
:EDIT; if you'd ever wanna get rid of those LE2's shoot me a PM.. I've been looking for months.

My last tune from Ion was prett damn rich to say the least, among other things. I would have the tune looked at if at all possible.

I'll consider it.. I've had them laying around like everything else for 6yrs lol don't really want to get into the internals again for awhile cause next time I do I might bore & stroke and go a lil more extreme than these, was gonna throw them on originally until I realized the valve guides were worn so i threw on these spare stockers I had all set up already. like I said they need new valve guides atm and having a hard time getting things done so far from home and only on shore for ~8hrs a time a couple times a week.

damn, i'm really gonna be kicking myself if its only the tune. I guess my next step should be those injectors and a re-tune.. maybe I can borrow a cable and data log it to have him double check it.. or maybe I should jump ship to solomon

long story short the first mechanic fuct it all up running it wayy to long trying to trouble shoot in a state it shouldn't of been running it too long. the 2nd mechanic I brought it to saw the bottom end was in bad shape on 1st inspection so stopped there and never got the issue diagnosed. what ya gonna do.. I should have a 383 going in by july, gettin the valve guides fixed on my LE2's in the mean time so it'll be a whole new animal

I am putting together a stocker LT1(96) for my son's 70 camaro, bolted the heads on and rockers and pushrods,on friday, today I hope to get the intake and valve covers, and water pump on, soon(few days?) I should be starting the engine on a low stand I made for running engines. Once I have made sure there are no leaks, no overheating, etc. I will put it in the car. I am using an optispark off of a good running 94 LT1 engine I got, that turned out to have a broken main cap. I never get lucky and have everything work out!

They can also get stuck open though which could make for rich.
