If you are road racing or autoxing, sure you are better off with higher flow from the mechanical. Cruising down the highway at 2krpm, you aren't benefiting from the mechanical at all.

Lol....I was thinking same thing. The battery will still run everything (WP too) OK for 10-15 mins even with a dead alternator before the battery dies.

The battery will die much faster with the EWP than a mechanical one. That's simple logic. Again, the difference between needing a tow truck or not. And still not worry about over heating. If you think that pump is still going to move the same amount of fluid without the alternator you are surely mistaken. It may move enough to cool an engine that is not running, but it's a different story when that engine is on.

There's no grasping at straws here. This is fact. If it's such a non-issue, why don't ANY major manufacturer use them from the factory? Care to guess?

A belt drive fuel pump would be so awesome, but I can't afford one

You feeling butt hurt there Shownomercy ?

BTW, I found out the BMW did do an EWP from the factory (E90). Wow, talk about a failure rate. It's embarrassingly bad for BMW........

I am not sweetbmxrider...

I will say this, my car died with no alternator well before it overheated from EWP not spinning fast enough.

Here's a timely article about electric WPs, good read! http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/...#ixzz3e62Muxsk

"In fact BMW began using electric water pumps around 2007 and several other manufacturers are working on similar versions".

"When used with the Davies Craig Digital EWP and Fan Controller (PN DC-8000), the pump speed is increased and decreased based on the engines operating temperature, instead of rpm."

^Pretty neat! I wish mine did that...

See my post above, also see their failure rate.

But cool tech none the less. They are about $400 for the E90 unit. I wonder how one of these could be implemented on an LT1? But we'd have to deal with their poor service life. They are definitely more powerful that anything currently offered for our cars.

Biggest advantage of an e-pump is when at the track, being able to cycle the power to move coolant into the radiator along with a fan switch. Makes for a quick cool down. My car ran about 10* warmer at cruising speeds with the e-fan. Ran significantly cooler when in stop/go traffic. Unless some sort of thermodynamic sciency **** is dropped about how a humid climate is better at cooling engines, I'm not sure I believe it. I've lived in both and to go out in a 100* day with humidity in the 90 percent range is as painful, if not more than being out in a 115* day with humidity at half the value. Where I see higher humidity having the advantage is when the sun goes down, which seems to aid in cooling off? I dunno...

Without going into the science of it, your body at 98°F reacts differently to humidity than your radiator at 200°F. Where your body can't evaporative cool due to ambient conditions and your body temperature, your radiator can and does. The same thing is happening in the combustion process too. The humidity absolutely helps a car cool down, but for us humans we are just sucking.

So higher humidity creates a more efficient combustion process?

Not that I'm aware of. But it does cool the cylinder down. Think water/meth injection at a much lower scale. Also research 6 cycle engine.

Butt hurt over this topic? lulz no, I have no dog in this fight.

My setup is what it is because of the limitations placed on building LT1s. Such is life.

Humidity/dew point also screws with your DA for the day, its a killer of power and ET. And water injection will always displace fuel, so you "lose" power.

Agreed. It's a give take. The winter (if you can call it that) here is awesome for some decent track times. But the summers are brutal. Especially Tucson, 6000+DA at 10 pm sucks. But hit Phoenix in January and DA close to sea level with that 40° dry air and let her rip.

Ah yes, coal mine air here in the fall is amazing for some record ET attempts. I would be very curious to see how my efficiency is in super dry, ~50* OAT.

On the topic of water pumps, my truck has a gear driven one. Stupid LT1 traits won't leave me alone.
