Default Question on pulling the oil pan

Can you pull the oilpan with the engine in the car, stock K member, if the trans/clutch is removed? If not can it be raised a couple inches and come out? any input is appreciated

It seems like I remember reading you can unbolt the motor mounts and lift the motor up as far as it will go. You then need to support the motor with something. I think there is a device you can get from harbor freight the will span the show towers. I believe you the need to loosen the k member bolts and a drop the k member down a little but it does not need to come out. I am sure other people will chime in. I looked at doing it to put a new oil pump spring in when I was doing my heads and cam. My car only has 60K and it sounds like kind of a PITA so I just left it for now.

I tried not too long ago, with my engine jacked up i couldn't clear with an M6, i've read that with the inspection cover off of an A4 you can sneak it out, but you have to have the tranny out for an M6...It looked possible without dropping the K member though, just my experience

i ended up just checking for metal, changing the gasket and bolting it back up without ever getting it out all the way

It can be done with the T56 still in. You need an engine bay brace to lift the motor up until the trans hits the tunnel, then you loosen the front K member bolts almost all the way and remove the other 4 and turn the crank so the first counter weight is at the top. Probably not much fun on the ground but on a rack its not bad.

We went and pulled this thing on jack stands, we are going to tow it to my shop to get it on the lift to put it back in. I forgot how much working on the ground sucks

Just need to loosen the k member and drop it 3-4 inches. Jack the motor in the trans bell housing and you're good to go. I've done it. Not fun. But I've done it

I've tried it and it's such a pain that whenever I have to remove the oil pan(which has not been but a couple times) I just pull the engine.
