Default Lt1 No start

Hey there guys.
I have a 94z28 with the lt1. This problem has came and gone over the past few months. Wondering if its an Optispark issue?
Car will run fine and crank fine one day and about once a month it will crank fine and has good fuel pressure but will not start. The tach doesnt move at all and sits are 0. Does not even attempt to fire than a day or two later of leaving it, it will fire right up no problems.
Vats issue? Optispark? Not sure when the Opti was last done. Trying to limp it through the rest of the season and pull it apart in the winter.
Thanks.

ICM issue? Do you recall what brand opti was installed? If I were you I'd disable the Vats. I did as soon as I got the car. Now tell me, when you try and crank the car does the motor turn over or just nothing at all?

Could be ignition switch. Is the security light on?

I do not know what brand opti It has. The engine cranks fine and very quick like usual but will not fire. My regulator is showing pressure and you can smell the fuel. There must be no or very weak spark.
The security light comes on for 5 seconds when I turn the key over but does not stay on. So I assume everything there is working correctly.

You checked fuel pressure or vacuum pressure at the regulator? Also there should not be a fuel odor coming from the FPR vacuum reference line.

If the security light is not staying on at all, that likely rules out a VATS issue. Does the vehicle ever shut off while running? Could also be an ignition switch, I had a faulty one cause intermittent starting/running issues.

The last time I had it running was Sunday afternoon. That was the first time it's ever shut off while already running. It fired up fine then after 10 seconds shut off and it hasent fired since.

Changed the ICM and changed the MSD coil to a brand new stocker. Nothing. Car isnt doing anything differently.
I stuck a test light down the boot on the wire coming from the Opti and im not getting anything. Is this my problem than?

Also like to ad that this car had a new ignition and key put in by a GM dealer back in March.

Question though. In changing the coil and the ICM i've basically ruled those out. Is there anywhere else to look other than the opti?

Nobody wants to believe the most dubious part of the ignition system could be the cause of issues

It's also possible it could be the opti harness if you want to try that...just don't buy a cheap opti if you have to replace or you'll have another thread shortly complaining of another dead opti! When was your cap and rotor last replaced? You might get lucky and just need a cap and rotor for a fraction of the price of an entire new GM opti.

Test the key switch & if it fails the test on those 2 wires comin out Do the VATS Delete / Bypass Mod & be Done with that Headache!!! The little wires in the key switch break pretty Easy!!! So just Eliminating that B.S is the best way to make life easier My firebird wouldnt always set the security light either!!!
