I dont care about the 400rw bragging rights or 11 sec cars that idle like ****. I agree ls1' s are no joke with bolt ons. I want to get away with a solomon mail order tune. Would that work? I might go bigger with the cam but not at the cost of driveability. Would a cam with 230 duration idle okay? What LE cam would you rec for a 12 sec Daily Driver? 224/230 @ 112 lsa? I would think that cam would get at least 370rw if tuned properly.
It all depends on what you consider "idling like ****" I guess. 230 degrees of intake duration is not what I would do with most H/C setups. Typically, a cam with 230 or more degrees of intake duration is going to want 11.5 compression or the midrange could be soft. If you have a modest bump in compression through use of a thinner gasket, I'd go upper 220s at most. Something like AI's 226/234 will drive well if you have a good tune and make good power too. My car with the 228/234 on a 108lsa drives well, but there is some minor surge down low. Some of that is due to the fact that I'm running stock 3.42 gears though.
224/230 112 lsa is not a LE grind to my knowledge, that's a popular Comp XE grind that has been around for years. Really popular with folks who run a "cam only" setup with stock untouched heads.

My previous post was more about springing for the better heads than with getting a really big cam. Though I would consider something in the mid 220s on the intake side and with a healthy amount of lift to take advantage of a good set of heads.

I have 160,000 miles on my block. 6 speed manual.

Stock heads

LE 223/231 @110 lsa
I shift at 6000 rpm

Ran a 12.9@107 with a 2.0 60'

I do mostly highway and get 20 mpg average per tank fill.

Cammed 6 speed trapping 107 is nothing to be proud of. Take it to 6300 and powershift like a man.

Solomon does good work and tuned my car. He is now going to tune it on E85. Ordered the Cable Loan Power Tune from him Wednesday night. My car is a 230/236 .510 .520 w/1.5 rockers and it has 1.7's on it now. It idles great. Just smells strong of fuel. Nothing you can really do with a bigger cam and no CATS.

Proper tune, and proper gearing/stall if it applies, works wonders.

I'm going with the LE 215/227 .546/.565 111lsa cam and le1heads. Should make for a good daily driver. Going from 255-260rw too 350-370rw should feel nice driving to work. Thanks for all the advice. I will need lots of help with this winter build from this forum. Is there anything in advance I can start buying right now before I tear into the engine this december? Lloyd rec lunati lifters if my stockers are worn. Any good self aligning rr's or pushrod recommendations? Thanks again Lt1 gods!
