540ci BBC conversion or keep the LT1 for 1996 impala SS?

Yeah, because it has a bigger bore than a big inch small block and longer stroke that will suck air better than a small block if the BBC has a high quality heads, intake manifold and cam. BBC's have race heads with not even 2.30" intake valves they have bigger valves to 2.47" intake valves that will flow I don't know how much of cfm maybe around 500 cfm. But for me I will go with a streetable 320cc tfs heads with 2.30" intake valves ported by AI that will make good power for drag strip yet I hope will not swallow too much fuel.

Actually I'm not sure I might keep the LT1 because it will consume less fuel than a BBC because much of my usage of the impala SS will be on the street. Then I will make custom 66mm twin turbo system and make 2 programs for it one with low boost 1-2 psi for street driving and the other like 15-18 psi of boost for drag strip. I will never race on the street. It is dangerous to race on the street way to much cars on the street.

I agree, you should just turbo your LT1 like others on here for less and still get halfway decent gas mileage for driving on the highway or long distances and you can always crank up the boost for more power.

I don't think anybody around here builds radical cars like this one with concerns about fuel economy.
Low tension piston rings are used in track only racing engines. Anybody building a street machine would use more traditional rings, which would normally be supplied with the pistons.
