Default Water Pump Drive Seal Tool

Does anyone know rough dimensions of one of these tools? I used one that my buddy had once and it worked great. Wouldn't take but a few minutes to turn on the lathe. Just use some aluminum rod. I just don't want to pull my car apart to measure the drive splines and seal.

Did this job a couple of days ago - used an old Sharpie highlighter after trimming an inch off the end and pulling out the wick. The taper of the marker is a perfect match.

Just a tool I want to have around. Hate not having the right tools.
Having the right tools makes your job a lot easier.

I used a sharpie cap yesterday to install my seal & worked perfectly. And to think I contemplated spending $$$ on a "special tool" that I would probably only need once is silly.

you can use various forms of the "tool".....The factory tool made by Kent Moore is a plastic version of what the fabricated ones available for around $20 are

a long socket or even the coupler spline itself. The Sharpie cap mimics the tool quite well as it is initially tapered like the Kent Moore and aftermarket tool making sliding on the seal easier without folding over the inner lip. With that said a carefully used appropriate deep socket or the coupler itself can be used

or you could get a double lip replacement seal, and solve all of your problems. I have the part number at home, I'll get it posted later

I don't think there is any. All LT1 water pump shaft seals are of the same kind, AFAIK. A stock seal is double lip.

So why would one say just go to the "double lip" seal and it solves the problem?
