Default Fun Day at the Track

Yesterday was our annual track rental I organize at Atco (5 years running). I haven't raced the bird in about a couple years since I was fussing with the engine, trans etc. Friends who help put the car together were in attendance which made the day a lot of fun. Overall the car did well in my opinion but like anything else, there is room for improvement. I try to make the car do many things but it isn't the best at anything lol.

Most of the runs were in the 10's at 136 or faster. Next year I will see if I can fit some 28's without too much work on the rear wheel wells/fenders and look into a longer torque arm. The car moves around a bit too much for my liking which made me a touch gun shy on hammering the shifts. In retrospect, the car feels like you are trying to tame a bucking bronco which is kind of fun in a way....even though it doesn't make for really good ETs. It was a good feeling putting the car back on the trailer for the ride home with only an oil leak to resolve. I will take a look where its coming from but a friend of mine got under there and mentioned it looks like just a valve cover gasket.

Best of the day was 10.6 @ 139 with a 1.68 60'. All are new bests.
Race weight ~4200 (She is a heavy bitch - Convertible, full interior, all accessories, stereo, etc.)

A good number of folks were taking pictures and vids throughout the day so as more are uploaded, I will post them up.

Run compilation

Racing a Challenger Hellcat. Pretty quick cars.

By far one of the best fbod setups on the web at the current time, very proud to be able to wrench on it.

4200lb and 140mph traps is pretty damn amazing, as always, good work BLS.

LTX shootout, 2016, lets dance.

Holy smokes....that trap speed
That's an easy 9 sec ride, if that's what you wanted out of it. Take a look at my measly 128 trap for 10.3's
I've raced at Atco several times; with good air, it rivals Cecil County times.
Nice car!

Nice car!
Wow that car is moving man! For sure one of the nicest F body's out there, it was actually done right.... Bowtie, it is amazing what good air can do for some ET's. Fall down in NC is a great time for setting some personal bests, that crisp cool air with sometimes below zero density altitude produces some killer times! Todd tutterow ran a 3.73 at Farmington (1/8th mile) years ago during a cool fall day!

That is moving pretty good. I've seen several low 4's but never any high 3's(that I recall). I don't attend the big boy events, mostly test'n tune.

Nice work. I have a couple questions if you dont mind - What size tire are you running? Is the car lowered? And are you using a 2 step? Thanks...

Farmington is great track prep and traction, with slicks it's virtually impossible not to have traction!

Farmington?? I've never seen your car out there. And yeah the big boy events attract quit a crowd, I never have ran my car there but once... I go to test and tunes with my dad's duster. And OP: I'm genuinely sorry to hijack the thread but I have to post this for ACE & Bowtie... Lol.

Thanks for all the kind words guys! I'm pretty sure I figured out the oil leak yesterday. Since my friend mentioned it looked like the rear of the valve cover was seeping, I ran my hands behind both sides and sure enough, they were pretty wet. I have the composite LT4 valve covers so I was surprised they would leak since the gasket is like an o-ring on these. I noticed the main coil bracket on each valve cover could rock ever so slightly. I got to the center bolts and they were barely finger tight. Whoops....guess they worked themselves loose. I got that all tightened up, cleaned the underside of the car a little and all appears to be well.

Thanks. Rear tire is a 27x10.5 QTP. I'm planning on moving to a 28" tire next year along with a few other changes. The car is lowered a touch with coilovers on the front. The front lower control arms provide a 1" drop but I need to get a heavier spring in the car. The coil overs are pretty high and it still rode too low. 2 step was in the car but I really didn't mess with it. I tried earlier to use it with a 5k limit but it would just blow off the tires.

Thanks for all the help and good words man! If the stars align, LTX sounds good but may need to settle for a good ol Racewars showdown.

Good to see another forced inducted 6 speed, I think I was the only one at the shootout, and unfortunately missed 4th gear in the semis, but as you, finally after years, my car made all the passes without error (except for mine), this alone was a win for me...

Your car was moving at the Shootout. I was the crippled guy in the little red scooter taking pics/vid. I had back surgery shortly after the trip and doing pretty well. It was nice to be able to row the gears.

Thumbs up

One of the best builds I've ever read about on these forums. Love the fact that you are still full weight.

Thanks man. I do like the car to have a few functions. A purpose built track car doesn't really interest me but I'm sure it would be a whole lot simpler.

Thanks man. And yea, pretty sure you have and drove your car home afterward. Some men just love the feel of a kirkey the whole way home.

Sweet car Blackbird! I hope you get to dip that car into the 9's! 6 speed cars always get my attention, send it's a whole lot harder for us to get the number.

A buddy of mine took some real nice pics at the rental. Check them out.

Thanks and yes, it is an interesting experiencing rowing the gears in a reasonably powerful car. It's the hard way of doing this but I enjoy it.

Yeah Blackbird, I definitely have a whole lot to learn when I start trying to tune my suspension.
