Well it sounds like I have everything picked out but the springs, it seems I may have luck with afr guideplates clearing with no modifications as well.

So the 98213's...anyone see a problem running them?

I would go with the 98215 spring, a much better spring for a little extra money. The stock 1.780" install will give you 135# on the seat.

The 98215s definitely seemed like the better spring. Just wasn't sure if they were too strong. I'll give them a go.

well I just ordered all my crap

OBX long tube headers
scorpion 1.6 rockers
Howards 98215 springs
AFR guideplates
Trickflow pushrods
ARP rocker studs

Only live once I guess - trying to think if Ill need anything else...

btw, anyone heard of speedmaster pushrods?

Speedmaster PCE254.1028 is the part number... 7.2" chromoly pushrods for 51.50? I almost tried them thinking how hard can it be to make a pushrod...but went with the trickflows, cuz their name is cooler!...and ive used them in the past as well as other people have.

new valve stem seals are not on your list

FelPro Viton seals will work and you should be able to get them at most auto part stores

depending on condition of valve cover gaskets...you may need a new set also

while the 7.200 PR may be the right length....given you got 1:7 RR...might want to check that length marking the tip of the valve tip with a Sharpie and turning the motor over a few revolutions by hand to see where the witness mark lands....aka check PR length

Yea I just realized ill still need valve seals, header bolts (going to get some nice ARP stainless ones), and some o2 extensions and probably just get new o2 sensors and not fight the old ones.

One guy said the AFR guideplates cleared the scorpions fine too, but I definitely plan to double check everything by spinning the motor over by hand

Make sure you stay away from the umbrella style valve seals if using a dual coil spring

It will be a single spring with the damper removed, said to work fine. LE uses/used them that way.

I would be really surprised if you don't have to clearance the guideplate slots, as the 1.7s move the pushrod much closer to the fulcrum and they were bottoming out in mine.

but I'm sure that with all the discussion in this thread you will be extra vigilant in checking things over.

My plan was to put everything on one valve and go from there and spin it by hand, any problem with that approach?

yeah do that. #1 cyl would be a good candidate as you can do both int & exh. when # 1 is at TDC

just remember they are "guide" plates...not "rub" so confirm you don't have PR to guide plate rubbing on the base of the guide plate slot. The guide plates are hardened so will take some effort to grind out if you wind up having to
