Default porting tb opening while on engine?

Any safe way to go about opening the TB ports from 48mm to 58mm while still on the engine? Really dont want to pull the manifold if I dont have to. But if thats the best way to go about it, then of course I will pull it...

I wouldn't recommend doing that. I don't remember a ported TB being that popular of a LT1 mod anyway.

IIRC the stock intake manifold opening is 54mm. you really don't want to shave off that much metal while manifold is installed on motor...shavings WILL get into motor

You can buy a 52 or have the stock TB bored to 52 (preferred) and just leave the intake manifold alone.

It used to be that you could find a 'vendor' for ported throttle-bodies on Ebay.....

I have been looking for someone too. There was a pretty good listing on ebay in 2014, but it does not look like they do it anymore. It is a shame too because it sounds like a stock TB bored to 52mm operates better than any of the aftermarket ones.

I got my stock TB ported from a guy on a ebay a few years ago. Not sure if there is still someone on there who offers the service.

stock manifold bore is 52mm. TPIS offeres stock throttle bodies bored to 52mm and you need to send in your core. They also offer a 58mm and a monoblade.

I donw mine back in the day on the car. Shoved some shop rags in the intake and used a shop vac to pull all the shavings out. Never had a problem
On the throttle bodies, What did they previous guy charge? Any idea where he got the butterflies? We have a machine shop, it may be something we look into

Yea I picked up a used 58mm TB with all sensors included on it for 80$ so I am not complaining. I just was seeing if I could do it without pulling the manifold. But it looks like I am going to pull the mani and paint it also. Thanks for the help guys. Oh one last ques, whats the best type porting bit to go about using to port it open?
